Surgeries Commonly Performed
Those listed here are those commonly performed by Dr. Crowe but is not all inclusive. Many others are also offered and performed at all inviting hospitals, They fall into those that are elective and those that are done on an emergency basis. Dr. Crowe will work with the family veterinarian to schedule and perform the surgery required. If you are the veterinarian know that you are encouraged to call to discuss the patient's condition and options 24-7. Soft tissue (general surgery) procedures: Airway - "laryngeal tie-back" or arytenoid lateralization; elongated soft palpate resection; laryngeal saccule resection; partial arytenoid resection, tonsillectomy and mucosal resection for severe laryngeal chronic obstruction and laryngeal collapse; temporary and permanent tracheotomy/tracheostomy; extra tracheal ring support for tracheal collapse; laryngeal and tracheal mass resection; repair of injured tracheal and laryngeal tissues. |

This is Bama a Beagle that was quadraplegic from a ruptured cervical intervertebral disc and required a myelogram and then a ventral slot procedure to decompress the cord and now postoperatively she is beginning to walk (photo). She went on the make a complete neurologic recovery.
Thoracic ProceduresLung lobe resection for tumor, trauma, infection (abscess) or consolidation;
PDA ligation; PRAA resection and esophageal dilation; Pericardial window creation; Removal of atrial appendage masses; Thoracic wall repair following trauma; Flail chest stabilization; Esophageal foreign body removal; Resection of thoracic wall tumors and reconstruction; Thoracic duct and tributary ligation for chylous effusion, Thoracic and abdominal drain placement for treatment of chylous effusion; Pacemaker implantation; Lung and mediastinal pleural peal resection for pyothorax. |
Post operative care following all surgeries is very importantDr. Crowe works closely with the primary care veterinarian to insure that recovery is uninterrupted. .

Some of the most common emergency procedures performed include: rapid celiotomy for abdominal hemorrhage, splenectomy w omentectomy, liver lobe rection +/- autotransfusion, gall bladder removal, correction of a gastric volvulus and pexy, splenectomy, hepatectomy, nephrectomy. hernia reduction & repair of diaphragm tears, debridement/irrigation of severely injured limbs and deep trunk lacerations, avulsions, abdominal wall herniations and evicerations, myelogram, hemilaminectomy, dorsal laminectomy, cord irrigation; external fixator placement and local wound care for open joints and fractures; parasternotomy and celiotomy for multiple or single penetrating wounds or impailments, obstructed bowel or urinary tracts requiring emergency procedures ( perineal urethrostomy and cystomomy) |
